Just a Girl and Her Dog

Hello everyone,

My name is Krista Mellum and my pup’s name is Captain. Together we are trying to make a difference in the countless lives of homeless pets around the United States of America.

How are we doing this you may ask? Well what I do is I hand make dog collars out of paracord and donate 15% of profits to rescues and no kill shelters. For those of you who do not know what paracord is it is a cord made out of nylon rope. Paracord makes a great material for dog collars because of its great strength and resistance to mold and mildew.

That’s my part. Captain’s part is easy, all he has to is model the collars I make and of course look cute! Captain is a one of a kind dog. He is 50% American Staffordshire Terrier, 12.5% Neapolitan Mastiff, and 37.5% mixed breeds.

Captain a couple days after his adoption.

He is 86 pounds of pure cuteness and love. Captain is a rescue from Unbreakable Bullies located in Des Moines, Iowa. He was a stray from Chicago and was believed to have a pretty harsh past. He was also hit by a car and in result lost one of his eyes. However that does not slow him down one bit!

Since the day I saw his picture on Adoptapet.com I fell in love with him. My boyfriend, Chris, and I drove four hours down to Iowa to adopt him. Best decision of my life. Captain made me realize that there are so many homeless pets out there like him that deserve a loving home. I knew I had to do something to help those animals in need. Captain inspired me to start making dog collars to help raise money for rescues and no kill shelters.

2018 was our first year running Captain’s Collars and we were able to raise $700.67 for rescues! This is incredible and I owe it all to my supporters and customers. Thank you everyone so much. We are looking forward to see what 2019 will bring.
